More About Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasounds are sound energy and utilize mechanical vibrations at increasing frequencies. While ultrasounds are usually associated with diagnostics and abdominal scans, ultrasound technology has applications within the chiropractic and physiotherapy fields to assess and treat various musculoskeletal conditions. This includes:

  • Tendonitis and bursitis
  • Pain relief
  • Ligament injuries and joint tightness
  • Muscle spasms
  • Reducing the development of scar tissue

Ultrasounds are also helpful in other areas of medicine, such as oncology and neurology. This includes treating long-term degenerative diseases. It is important to note that ultrasound therapy requires experience and expertise to administer correctly. We recommend using a reputable chiropractor, Dr. Liazuk, at the Plover Chiropractic Center, which serves the Plover, WI, community for your ultrasound treatment.

The Two Types of Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy falls into one of two categories, namely:

  • Thermal
  • Non-thermal

Thermal ultrasounds offer a heating effect to help promote muscle relaxation. In contrast, non-thermal or cavitation ultrasounds use short bursts of ultrasonic frequencies that function as vibrations to force the tissues in the affected area to expand and contract rapidly to promote healing. Cavitation therapy also has other applications but is not recommended for pregnant women.

What to Expect at an Ultrasound Therapy Appointment?

At your ultrasound therapy appointment, which will only be after a prior evaluation, you can expect to lie or sit comfortably on a therapeutic table or bed, after which your technician will apply a gel before moving the ultrasound wand back and forth over the affected area. You should not be uncomfortable or in pain during the appointment. It will take a little time, and the total treatment will be approximately 5 to 15 minutes long.

Ultrasound therapy works well as part of a complete chiropractic plan to reduce pain, promote healing, and improve the overall quality of life. In addition to ultrasound therapy, we also offer the following chiropractic therapies:

  • Chiropractic adjustments and manipulations specializing in Diversified, Activator, and Drop techniques.
  • Microcurrent therapy and dry needling
  • Electrical muscle stimulation therapy and Interferential electrotherapy

You can expect to receive the highest quality chiropractic at every appointment in our state-of-the-art facility. Our mission is to provide patient-centered care in our community.
